What we’re looking at here is Irish drifter, Darren ‘D-mac’ McNamara’s Group-D long-wheel base Ur-Quattro, as presented to the world at this year’s Autosport International Show in Birmingham. The iconic Group-B Rally era ‘Quattro’ has been modernised and turned into a present day drift monster, whilst retaining the period-correct aesthetics of the Group-B era. To better suit drift use, the Group-D Audi D-Mac S1 is based on the long wheelbase chassis, as opposed to the rally S1 which is short wheelbase.

Meaning this is the only long-wheelbase S1 in existence. The evocative beast has been converted to rear-wheel drive with all fab work being completed by John Stone at Stone Motorsport, and is powered by a stonking 2.7-liter, Audi 5-cylinder engine.
The engine is designed to lean over to the right side, but the team at Group-D have have dry-sumped it and stood it up. There’s a TDi block and 20-valve head in the mix, plus a big Garrett turbocharger.
Power will be transmitted by an ACT clutch to a SAENZ 6-speed sequential gearbox. Flat shift, anti-lag, and engine management will he handled by a Haltech. Will feed all necessary info to D-Mac. In the rear, behind that sexy copy of a Group B/Pikes Peak S1 lower panel, a one-piece shaft hooks up to a Nissan R200 Diff sitting a Nissan Silvia S14 modified subframe, with D-Mac Control Arms all round. Driveshaft Shop axles spin up those glorious Work Meister S1Rs. There’s still a bit of work to do on the car before it is ready to be driven in anger in the Irish Drift Championship.
We can’t wait to see it clipping walls in the Emerald Isle!
